Tooth Extraction
Posted in Health on 10-Nov-2015
It was an early (4:30 a.m. alarm) and exciting morning. Off to get my back lower left molar extracted and prepped for an implant. It all went remarkably well: no pain, just some unpleasant pushing and pulling. I was disappointed the pre-op drugs didn’t have a more dramatic effect. I was kind of hoping for hallucinations and temporary amnesia.
It’s that Time of the Year: First Snow on the Mountain
Posted in Weather on 9-Nov-2015
The higher elevations have had several snowy days but this morning we got our first glimpse of white in the foothills, at about 3,000 feet I think (although the Weather Service says 4,000).
Bran Muffins
Posted in Food & Cooking on 7-Nov-2015
I’ve had a yearning for bran muffins since I had one on the Alaska Airlines flight to Detroit last month. With the rain keeping me inside and no football games of interest, I whipped up a dozen whole wheat, blueberry, walnut gems. That first one out of the oven was ever so yummy.
Redwoods Puzzle
Posted in jigsaw puzzles on 7-Nov-2015
We’ve had a long hiatus from jigsaw puzzles but with the now more frequent rainy days and impending dental surgey I decided to dive into our supplies. This one depicts Elk Prairie in Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park, one of our stops on last month’s redwoods adventure.
Bellevue Botanical Garden
Posted in Travel on 6-Nov-2015
I stopped by the Bellevue Botanical Garden this morning after depositing the Acura for a regular service. Even this late in the year and in a light mist, it was truly beautiful. Especially the Japanese maples what are still flaunting their glorious colors.
Halloween Fun
This is the first time we’ve spent Halloween away from home. It was an enjoyable evening, sitting with family at our niece, Brigitte’s home, watching the little kids and teenage nieces in their costumes.
Memorial Service
This morning we attended a memorial service for a dear friend of our family, Lee Crummer. It was all very nicely done, a deserving event for a much-admired man.
Fall is Definitely Here
Posted in Weather on 26-Oct-2015
It’s amazing, really. Each year just around Halloween, it’s as if some spirit flips a switch and the clouds and drizzle descend. We still have a few leaves to cheer up the view but not for long.
Signs of Winter
I had my annual cardiology check-up this morning with stellar results. Down 6 pounds since last year, blood pressure at 116/68 and resting pulse at 52. The other big news is the first snowfall at the Mt. Rainier visitor center:
Appalachian Oddysey
Posted in Family on 25-Oct-2015
My grand-nephew, Paul, and his fiancée, Christina, completed a six-month, 2,189-mile hike of the Appalachian Trail. Very impressive!
