Yikes! Rain

It’s already one of the wettest years in Seattle history.

Squirrel Deportations Continue

I captured three more gray squirrels today and transferred them to the other side of the river. Our bird seed should last a lot longer now but I think there are still a couple of them hanging around nearby.

Battling the Squirrels

The big gray squirrels have become quit the pests now that they are so numerous: I counted seven on the patio few days ago. So I put out the trap I bought a while back and got the first captive within fifteen minutes.

Wettest Seattle Winter

The “official” rainy season runs from October 1 to March 1. And we’ve just had the wettest five-month season in Seattle history with 38.22 inches of rainfall, about 13 inches above average. And the long-term forecast calls for more rain for most of March!

Fern Garden at Rest

We are working on clearing out old fern fronds and other winter cleanup (since it looks like it we will have an early spring). I took this photo of the fern-less fern garden to compare to June or so when all 15-some ferns have emerged.

Landscaping Underway

With tree removal and cleanup mostly complete, we acquired a magnolia and snobell to fill in along our western property line and added 6 yards of topsoil. Things will look ok come spring and really nice in seasons to come as these two mature and flower.

Golf

I took advantage of an unexpected nice weather day to play a round at Mt. Si. I had an excellent start going par-par-par-birdie for the first four holes. My short game was not very sharp on the back nine and I settled for an 86. Happy enough for this time of year.

Tree Clearing Day 2

All done. The yard and garden are a mess: muddy and strewn with twigs and sawdust. Here’s some indication of before and after. We’ll be adding deciduous trees to obscure the neighbor’s house a bit.

Tree Clearing Day 1

I finally got Trisha to agree to have more trees cleared from our back yard: 10 are planned to be taken down and another ten or so thinned. These are the two near to the house on the east and west sides of the yard.
