Photo Effects

I’ve been playing around with some photo effects software. I kind of like this variation of one of my favorite pictures of Bandon Beach in Oregon:

Bee

It seems like I’ve see an increased number of bees this year; I hope so. There were lots of them on the copious flowers in Whistler and this one was an unusually cooperative subject.

Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood

The forecast says we should approach 60 degrees again today. We are certainly off to a beautiful start. Caught this view on the way home from the gym this morning.

Break in Early Fall Rain

It’s late October and we’re entering the seasonal pattern of strings of rainy days.  There was a brief break this morning so I raced to the golf course and got in a quick round (with a satisfactory 86). On the way home I snapped this view of the afternoon sun on Mt. Si.

Seahawks’ Opener

Yeah!  NFL is finally here again. The Seahawks should be a really fun team to watch this season, no matter the win-loss record.

Seahawks 2014

I won’t be surprised if the Seahawks don’t win 13 games again but I do expect they will be fun to watch, especially if the offense performs the way it has in preseason games against San Diego and Chicago.

10,000 Miles

The odometer rolled past 10,000 miles on the new Acura today. On our Arizona/Texas trip in January we averaged about 625 miles per day. Otherwise, we’re at about 45 miles per day.

First Golf in a Month

Finally, we had one of those lovely winter mornings: a wee bit of frost with bright sunshine and no wind.  I dashed over to Mt. Si to get in a round before the Seahawks’ 1:25 kickoff.  The rust showed and I settled for a blase 90 but on such a glorious day it was wonderful just to be outside.

Spring…? Or is it Fall?

On April 1st I resisted the urge to post a comment on the lousy March weather and given the terrible storms in the northeast and south I feel guilty whining about a little rain.  But just for archiving purposes here are a few notes on our local climate experience.

Last month was the rainiest March in fifteen years.  Here in North Bend we had some kind of precipitation on 28 of 31 days and overnight lows were below freezing nearly every night. April is off to a similar glum start.  It’s rained every day so far –so that’s rain on 33 of the last 36 days– and the looking at the extended forecast we could have precipitation nearly every day this month.  Next year we are planing on spending a few weeks of March and April in Arizona.
