Palouse Ridge
Another course that I’ve repeatedly heard and read about is Palouse Ridge on the Washington State University campus in Pullman. Thus after my two rounds at Wine Valley I drove to Pullman. Palouse Ridge is a very challenging course with lots of elevation changes and sloping lies. It was a long course for me but I got around in a not embarrassing 93.
Golf at Wine Valley
I’ve been seeing advertisements for the Wine Valley Golf Course near Walla Walla, WA and decided to finally drive over the mountains to see it for myself. It’s kind of a stark setting –not a single tree to be seen– but a fun, challenging golf course. The greens were rated at 13 the day I played but I ended up with one of my best putting rounds ever with 27 putts on my second round after a mediocre 37 in the morning round. I’ll definitely make another trip to Wine Valley next year.
At the Gym

We’ve been working with a trainer for over a year now. It has definitely made our workouts more effective. We began working with Kelly Mast about four months ago and have enjoyed her guidance very much. Here we are with Kelly and her daughter, Stella.
“Terrence” is Back
The lovely pileated woodpecker who we’ve named “Terrence” has become a regular visitor to the yard. He stopped by this morning while I was having my morning coffee.
Longwood Gardens
On the final day of our trip east, Trisha’s sister’s family took us to Longwood Gardens in Pennsylvania, a magnificent garden estate developed principally by Pierre S. du Pont. It’s a stunningly beautiful setting with acres and acres of trees, ornamental shrubs, fountains and an enormous conservatory.
Wedding
My nephew Ryan, not yet 21 and already a Marine vet, got married today to his sweetheart, Alexa. It was a lovely ceremony held outside in rural Delaware.

Backyard in Bloom
Posted by nbdog in Around the house on 17-May-2014
The area we reworked after our landscape design class a couple of years ago has finally begun to mature. Thinning trees on the east side of the yard has helped the shrubs get just enough sunlight to fill out and the rhoddies have luscious blooms.
Front Yard Re-Do

It’s officially summer… once Trisha adds flowers to the front window boxes. I think our front entrance is finally set for a couple of years. We like the dish rock next to the drive, the climbing hydrangea to the right of the front door has established itself, and the Japanese maples –after their fall pruning– look great.
