Back from Bandon Dunes

I spent Tuesday and Wednesday at Bandon Dunes, playing 36 holes each day. I played OK on the first day, recording my best score ever on Pacific Dunes (85). On Wednesday I was kind of wiped out from a restless night’s sleep and slow play and didn’t do well at all. However, the scenery was as dramatic as ever, even with mostly overcast skies.

Bandon Trails Sunrise

Although Trails is not my favorite Bandon course, it can still be a picturesque setting. This morning’s sunrise was dramatic. Even the starter took a few photos as I prepared to tee off.

Golf

I took advantage of an unexpected nice weather day to play a round at Mt. Si. I had an excellent start going par-par-par-birdie for the first four holes. My short game was not very sharp on the back nine and I settled for an 86. Happy enough for this time of year.

A Bit of Golf

With a little break in the weather (some sun and low 50s) I spent an hour or so at Mt. Si practicing then played the back nine; my first Mt. Si outing of 2016. Shot a satisfying 41 with 5 bogeys and 4 pars… and no balls lost in the woods.

Bandon Dunes Sunrise

In my seven trips to Bandon Dunes I’ve been blessed with such good weather. Although I had mostly overcast yesterday and even a bit of light rain at the very end of the day, I got another gorgeous sunrise this morning.Bandon_practice_range_2314

Another Bandon Sunrise

It seems that on every trip to Bandon Dunes I see amazing sunrises… like this one.

At Bandon Dunes

I had an easy drive from North Bend to Bandon and arrived in time to get in an hour of practice before sunset. Got this view of the 7th and 8th holes of the Bandon Dunes courseBandon_Dunes_10277from behind the Pacific Dunes clubhouse.

Denver Golf Day 3

Our brief golf sojourn ended with a morning round at Red Hawk Ridge near Castle Rock, CO. This isn’t an especially scenic course but its wide fairways and generous greens present scoring opportunities for hacker golfers. I had perhaps my best ball-striking day ever tagging two 270-yards plus drives and recording no blow-up holes for a final score of 86. I finally felt like the March lessons and countless hours of practice over the past couple of months are paying dividends.

Denver Golf Day 2

Today we were at the picturesque Arrowhead golf club near Littleton, CO. It is certainly one of the most beautiful courses I’ve ever played, especially the back nine. The Robert Trent Jones, Jr. design meanders through and around red sandstone rock formations and ponds. We even saw a rattlesnake! Unfortunately, the greens were the most difficult I’ve ever played on and our scores (not reported here) reflected that.

Denver Golf Day 1

Today we played two rounds at Legacy Ridge in the Denver suburb of Westminster. It’s a very nice municipal course with ample fairways and huge greens and at $44/round a real bargain. The Arthur Hills design offered an excellent variety of holes with interesting doglegs that blend beautifully into the natural topography (I love Hills’ designs). I shot 87 during the morning round but stumbled to 94 in the afternoon thanks to a 9 on one hole. Still a very nice day in spite of an aching tooth.
