Snowy Morning

We were greeting with about 4 inches of snow this morning, our first really wintery day. After so much mild weather over the past year plus it’s seems really cold.

Fall Rain Is Back

From this evening’s Seattle Times

Rain shatters record — and more is on the way

“Even by Rainy City standards, it was unusually wet in Seattle on Wednesday.

By 3 p.m., 0.89 inches of rain had fallen at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, breaking the previous record of 0.87 inches set Oct. 22,1985, according to the National Weather Service. Slightly more than an inch of rain was recorded in Seattle’s Sand Point neighborhood at 4 p.m., shattering the 1989 record of 0.79 inches.”

Spring!

It’s been a very wet spring, we’re told, with a record 19-plus inches of rain since February 1st. The past few days have been so typical: periods of bright sunshine, then heavy showers, maybe a rainbow now and then, then a little sleet. Looking at the extended forecast things should start to really perk up around the third week of May when we will see temps in the 70’s and days of persistent sunshine. For now, it’s mostly like this….

Chilly Start to March

Kind of a nasty morning for the birds…, and for people too.  Freezing rain.

Crazy Weather

Not like most of the rest of the country but bizarre enough for Seattle.  We had a delightful stretch of days to end February: I played golf Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.  Friday was especially nice–almost short-sleeve weather with temperature in the mid 50’s by the time I finished my morning round.  I took this picture of the Meadowbrook Slough along Mt. Si’s hole number 11.

Saturday was cold and wet with the temperature twenty degrees colder than Friday afternoon. It began to snow late in the evening and today (Sunday) we woke up to a shallow coating of frozen snow and rain. That didn’t stop us from making a trip into Issaquah to have breakfast at the Barnes & Noble Starbucks where we were treated to a unique, Northwest-only scene.  The Starbucks café overlooks a large, nicely landscaped pond and perched on the pedestrian bridge was a magnificent eagle, eyeing it seemed, the mallards cruising nearby. I grabbed my camera from the car but Mr. Eagle departed before I could capture him digitally.

Spring-Like Day

As I neared the end of my round of golf this afternoon, I couldn’t help but think about friends and family in New Jersey, Texas, Ohio, and Michigan.  The official high temp was 56 but the reading on the car and outside the house recorded 58; really amazing for the end of January. At about the same time I see the temperature in Ann Arbor was 10, 38 in Austin, 13 in Toledo and 18 in Sicklerville.  Brrrr!  We are supposed to see another three days of 50-plus temps with lots of sunshine.

Another Lovely Day

It looks like we’re at the  beginning of a stretch of nice weather.  This morning’s sunrise sure was spectacular:

Missing the Winter Storms

So far we have had another mild winter and we are especially thankful as we watch the snow and bitter cold temperatures in so much of the country.  It’s seems chilly here at 45 degrees but it was pleasant enough to spend a couple of hours in the yard today picking up twigs and leaves.  I noticed that our Hellebores are starting to emerge, always a delightful sight in the middle of winter.
