At Bandon Dunes Again
After my truly pathetic play on my February trip to Bandon Dunes I was antsy to get back. So I was on the road by 7:30 and at the practice facility around 3:45. With the longer days, I had time before dinner to snap a bunch of photos on the always lovely Bandon Beach. I like this one of the driftwood.

And, I finally got an interesting view of the famous “Face Rock”:

…another missing piece! Geez, this is the second of the last four puzzles where we’ve ended up with a missing piece.
Lovely Morning of Golf
Trisha had a manicure appointment this morning so it was a day off from the gym. I teed off at 7:45 in a peaceful fog. The swing changes from last month’s lessons are helping. In spite of really mediocre putting and pulling one shot OB on the 11th hole I still managed a tidy 83 with birdies on #12 and #17.

Golf on the Dry Side
To escape the current stretch of damp days around North Bend, I decided to make a one-day voyage to Gamble Sands north of Chelan. I was quite surprised by the snowy conditions through Snoqualmie Pass and began to question the forecast I had seen for central Washington. But once over the mountains, it was, as predicted, sunny and mild. Arriving around noon I was the only golfer at the really spectacular Gamble Sands course. Best of all, I played well, garnering nine pars on the way to a very satisfying 81, my best score there by six shots. I was particularly pleased with a birdie on the final hole. After slicing my tee shot well into the desert, I managed to locate the ball and hit a spectacular escape well down the middle of the fairway. I followed that with a beautiful wedge to five feet and made the putt for 4. By the time I settled in the car for the ride home it was a sizzling 65 degrees. Well worth the three-hour drive.
73 Degrees
Done with Golf School
It was an exhausting three days. Just me and the instructor, Jim Samsing, a long-time club pro who even at my age can still really whack a golf ball. He also turned out to be a very good coach. We changed virtually everything about my swing. No surprise to me, since I’ve been playing poorly for about eighteen months. I estimate I hit over 1,000 balls over the three days. I came away with a solid understanding of what my swing should look like and a program to try to get there. He’s my new backswing:
Red Rock Canyon
Following an exhausting first day of golf school, I decided to visit the Red Rock National Conservation Area about 20 miles west of downtown Las Vegas. This has been on my informal list of places to visit. Unfortunately, the light wasn’t very good for photographs but I wandered around a bit and enjoyed the wind-down from the intense six hours plus of golf instruction.
Golf Academy Day 1
I’m finally here; in Las Vegas ready for three days of intense, one-on-one, golf instruction. The sunrise seen from my fourth-floor hotel room is surely impressive:
More Rocks

We’ve been wanting to add a rock border to the west side of the yard. We did the east side a couple of years ago and the front along the driveway last year. Two tons of ledge stone arrived this morning and I hope to finish this weekend.
