Missing the Winter Storms

So far we have had another mild winter and we are especially thankful as we watch the snow and bitter cold temperatures in so much of the country.  It’s seems chilly here at 45 degrees but it was pleasant enough to spend a couple of hours in the yard today picking up twigs and leaves.  I noticed that our Hellebores are starting to emerge, always a delightful sight in the middle of winter.

First Golf of 2014

It turned out to be a reasonably nice day for January 1st so I teed of at Mt. Si around 10:00 a.m. or so.  It was a mostly overcast day but with a few rays of sunshine and temperature at 45 it was a pleasant enough mid-day.  I shot a so-so 88; happy enough with that in the middle of winter.

Skagit River Eagles

We finally made a trek to US Route 2 along the Skagit River to see the bald eagles.  It was a bit early in the season but we did see several of the majestic critters perched in the trees and flying over the river in search of salmon.

On the way back we took route 530 along the Sauk River where I got these misty view of forest and river.

Christmas Eve

Not exactly a traditional Christmas setting but a lovely day for December 24.  We had lots of sun today, no rain and a high temperature around 47 degrees.

First Winter Snowfall

It’s very wet and will probably be mostly gone by tomorrow but we had our first real snowfall of the season overnight.

Acura Milestone

On the way home from the gym this morning the odometer on the Acura RDX passed 25,000 miles.  Not too bad, I suppose (58.6 miles per day), given our half dozen very long driving trips and somewhat less than I averaged when driving to/from work every day.

Snoqualmie Falls Again

The sunlight was better today so I thought I’d do another series of photos at Snoqualmie Falls. Here’s one I like:

Snoqualmie Falls

Today looked like the last opportunity to get some photos of Snoqualmie Falls before the weather warms and we have week of more of rain. With the heavy mist it was difficult to get a shot that adequately conveys the eerie majesty of the Falls in winter but here’s one effort:

Blue Jays

Even though the Stellar’s Jays are daily visitors to our feeders I rarely take photos of them.  They are so common –and annoyingly noisy– I pretty muck ignore them.  Watching them this morning I decided I should have at least one photo of these most frequent and prolific of our backyard grazers.
